Lincoln Presidential Foundation Receives Major Gift to Create New Destination Within Lincoln Home National Historic Site

The Lincoln Presidential Foundation (“Foundation”) announced it received a six-figure gift from the M.G. Nelson Family Foundation to create a new visitor experience for young people at Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Springfield. The donation covers the total project cost, including interpretive planning, design, fabrication, and installation of exhibits in the Corneau House. Corneau House is located across the street from the Lincoln Home and currently not open to the public.

Statement of Support - Julius Rosenwald & Rosenwald Schools National Historical Park

On behalf of the Lincoln Presidential Foundation, I write to express our support of the creation of the Julius Rosenwald & Rosenwald Schools National Historical Park. Last month, our Foundation entered into an agreement with the National Park Service to pilot philanthropic support of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site (LIHO). Julius Rosenwald’s boyhood home is located within LIHO, diagonally across the street from Abraham Lincoln’s home. The Rosenwald story is inextricably linked to our nation’s story of freedom, justice, and equality and the crucial role of universal education in a healthy democracy.

For months, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation (the “Foundation”) has been working hard and in good faith to negotiate with the State of Illinois and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) to reach a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to govern the relationship between the parties. Unfortunately, we were unable to come to an agreement.
